Taxonomies and Typologies in Research (Prof. Dr. Martin J. Eppler)
Taxonomies and typologies are of fundamental importance in many research endeavours, whether in analysing content, documenting case studies, preparing experiments, structuring observations, developing prototypes, elaborating concepts or conducting a literature review: Classifying an area, i.e. isolating its distinct attributes and organising them into groups, is a basic requirement for theory building.
This Ph.D. course addresses this challenge by providing a systematic overview of classification, by offering pragmatic rules and standards for high-quality classification in research, and by giving Ph.D. students the opportunity to analyse and discuss seminal and innovative classifications within their field of research. They will also attempt to classify relevant research phenomena in their domain related to business innovation.
Network Analysis (Prof. Dr. Katarina Stanoevska Slabeva, Thomas Plotkowiak, Prof. Dr. Miriam Meckel)
This Ph.D. Level course provides an introduction into Social Network Analysis (SNA), a method used to measure and visualise relationships and information flows between persons, organisations or other entities. Here, network masses represent fundamental metrics for interpreting the composition of groups or particularly significant agents and their functions. Visualisations are created in the form of representational network graphs.
The course explores the fundamental concepts of the approach. Specific SNA examples will be discussed in detail along with information about principles and more in-depth literature on Social Network Analysis.
