In the Center for Book and Publishing Studies we carry out interdisciplinary research in the area of current developments concerning the book, media and publishing market.

Our profile
The Center for Book and Publishing Studies is part of the Institute for Media and Communication Management at the University of St.Gallen. The Center covers the interdisciplinary research focus Book and Media and the Certificate in Book and Media Studies. It is also part of the St.Galler Zentrum für das Buch foundation (St.Gallen Center for the Book).

Our teaching
The new Certificate in Book and Media Studies has a coherent structure and, with its media and market-oriented focus, takes account of the new industry structures. With this certificate students benefit from a markedly practice-oriented approach and complete an industry-specific supplementary course that prepares them in an interdisciplinary manner for a career in the book and media market.

We carry out research in the field of current developments concerning the book, media and publishing market. As a result Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. theses and other student research projects are produced in this exciting market spectrum.

Cooperation with the St.Gallen cantonal library and the St.Galler Zentrum für das Buch foundation

The Center for Book and Publishing Studies is linked to the St.Gallen Vadiana cantonal library through the St.Galler Zentrum für das Buch foundation. There is close cooperation between the two institutions in research and at events.

The “St.Galler Zentrum für das Buch” has approximately 30,000 documents on the subject of “the book” and is housed in the St.Gallen Vadiana cantonal library. Researchers and students regularly access the rich archive of monographs, magazines and other materials.
